Mount Whitney (Aug 30-Sept 4, 2026)

We are so excited to announce that we have received a permit to take another team to the highest point in the continental United States, the summit of Mount Whitney! This is one of the most iconic hikes in the United States and this is a trip that we don’t get to offer every year. We only have a few spots on our permit. This trip will absolutely sell out, so register today.

Dates: August 30-September 4th, 2026

This trip will begin and finish in Reno, NV. Team members need to plan to arrive in Reno in the afternoon of August 30th and depart anytime on September 4th.

Cost: $1,550 per person

  • A non-refundable $400 deposit is required at the time of registration to secure your spot on the team. Please read our Trip Cancellation and Refund policy before registering for your adventure.
  • Full trip payment of $1,550 is due before August 1st, 2025.
  • We will work with each team member to arrange a payment schedule.

What is included:

  • All food throughout the duration of the adventure–a typical day’s menu will be light breakfast (bagels/cereal/oatmeal), sandwiches and snacks for lunch, and a home cooked meal or restaurant meal for dinner (spaghetti, tacos, etc.). We will keep the airbnb stocked with snacks and drinks.
  • Two nights in a hotel/airbnb in Reno, NV and 3 nights in a hotel/airbnb in Bishop, CA.
  • All ground transportation throughout the trip, including transfer to/from Reno, NV.

What is NOT included:

  • Team members are responsible for their own flights to and from Reno, NV.
  • Team members are responsible for their own trekking gear (daypack, clothes, hiking shoes/boots, trekking poles, head lamp, etc.) There is no need for a large backpack or any sleeping gear since we will be staying in an Airbnb. We will provide an extensive and detailed packing/gear list for all of our participants.
  • Though meals are provided, most team members will choose to pack their own snacks for the climb day.

Trek Difficulty: Extremely Difficult

Summiting Mount Whitney is a challenging endeavor when undertaken over multiple days; however, due to the nature of our permit, we will be attempting a 22 mile round-trip to the summit and back from Whitney Portal in a single (very very long) day. Many people summit Whitney in this manner, but it is much more demanding than a multi-day attempt, so we are requiring all members of our team to be in peak physical condition.

We expect to depart Whitney Portal on summit day at ~1:30AM (yes you read that right). We will trek in the dark and ascend nearly 7,000 vertical feet to the summit before making a u-turn and retracing our steps back to Whitney Portal. We expect summit day to take us somewhere between 12 and 16 hours of steady hiking.

This adventure will be incredibly physically demanding. We are recommending that at a minimum all team members be able to cover a full marathon distance (26.2) in less than 7hrs (16 minutes/mile) as a benchmark before attempting a single summit of Whitney. If an individual cannot complete this distance at brisk walking pace on flat ground at sea level, we don’t think it is wise to attempt Whitney. Of course, team members do not need to demonstrate this fitness at the moment they apply, but this is our minimum expectation by the start of the adventure. we recommend you take the season of preparation seriously. We suggest that all members of our team devote themselves to a season of physical training that should include a mix of smaller training hikes, strength work, and significant cardiovascular exercise.

Itinerary:

Day 1

Team members will arrive in Reno and check into our team hotel/airbnb. No food is included on this day.

Day 2

We will get up early in the morning and drive up to the trailhead for acclimatization hike of Mount Rose. The trail to the Mount Rose summit is ~10.5 miles round trip and tops out at 10,800ft. It will be a great tune up for our big climb on day 4. After we summit Mount Rose, we will drive 4 hours south to Bishop, CA, where we will eat a nice dinner and check in to our hotel/airbnb.

Day 3

This is our built in zero day. We will rest up and take care of a few last minute details for our climb. We will eat a late lunch/early dinner and try to be in bed by 6:00pm.

Day 4

Wake up call will be 12:45AM so we can be at the trailhead ready to hike at 1:30AM. The climb up Whitney is not really technical at all, but it is incredibly long. The round trip will be more than 22 miles and cover a staggering 7,000ft of gain and loss. We expect to be on the trail for somewhere between 12 and 16 hours. Though it is a brutally tough day, the views are spectacular throughout the entire climb. After we finish we will make our way to a local steakhouse for a celebratory meal.

Day 5

We will sleep in a bit and then hop in the cars to make the 3 hour drive to South Lake Tahoe for our lunch. After lunch we will drive along Lake Tahoe to Sand Harbor where we will spend a couple of hours relaxing on the lake shore. The frigid waters of Lake Tahoe will feel fantastic on exhausted legs. We will then make our way back down to Reno for dinner and our last night in the hotel/airbnb.

Day 5

Team departs from Reno.
