Discipletrek is an unapologetically faith-based entity. As such, we work hand in hand with our tax-exempt non-profit ministry called Project Doxa.
Project Doxa is devoted to responding to humanitarian crises and equipping Christian leaders for their various missionary endeavors in more than a dozen countries around the globe, including several challenging contexts where some of our activities are restricted or prohibited.
Consequently, we have limited Project Doxa’s online presence to what you can read here (we will be updating our blog with as much info as is safe for our people in coming months), but Jimmy Shaw would be thrilled to sit down over a cup of coffee where he can tell you in greater details more about the incredible things happening in and through Project Doxa (feel free to email him at jimmy@projectdoxa.com). Not all of our activities are subject to such restrictions. Here are just a few of the incredible things Project Doxa has been doing recently:
Romania
Project Doxa has had an active presence in Romania for nearly two decades. In that time, we have taken over 200 individuals on more than 30 short-term teams to work alongside our Youth with a Mission partners in the cities of Medias, Cluj, and Iasi. Project Doxa provides significant financial support to missionaries in all three cities. In recent months, our partners in Romania have been given an incredibly significant and difficult task as their country was one of the primary places where Ukrainian refugees fled after the Russian incursion. Our team in Cluj has provided food and housing for more than 80 refugees since March, 2022.
In addition, we have helped to send more than 20 semi trucks full of food and diapers and supplies back into the war torn villages of Ukraine. Each of these trucks has cost upwards of $25k. It has been incredible to witness God’s provision and favor in response to this crisis. People from around the world have taken note of this work, including the Ukrainian government who has gifted our friends significant tracts of land to begin rebuilding homes in anticipation of refugees returning to their homeland. As of this moment, we have helped to rebuild more than 100 small homes, and we will be taking a team to build a couple more of these homes sometime next summer.
Zambia
Project Doxa works alongside our partners Light of Africa and Operation Mobilization in remote villages in the Zambian bush. Each week our people minister to hundreds of children, train dozens of local leaders, and labor to improve the living conditions of impoverished Zambians via infrastructure projects and clean water well drilling and repairs. We are so humbled to witness the hard work of our missionary partners in Zambia, and we will be taking another short-term team to serve alongside them in a remote village in June, 2023.
Nepal
Project Doxa has been investing in the Nepali people for many years, some within the borders of Nepal and others in various countries. Unfortunately, we cannot speak so freely here about all of the incredible things that are happening through Project Doxa among the Nepali people, suffice it to say, we are very very active in the Nepali community. We run a school for hundreds of impoverished refugee Nepali children in a location where these refugees face persecution both for their ethnicity and faith, and throughout the covid crisis we provided tens of thousands of pounds of rice to impoverished villages throughout the Himalayas.
One Nepali project that we can talk openly about is our response to the earthquakes in 2015. We were proud to rebuild more than 200 homes across several villages in the Kathmandu region after that devastating disaster. We are so excited about Project Doxa’s ongoing work among the Nepali people, and there is no better way to see that work for yourself than to join one of our trekking adventures in Nepal.
Bolivia
Project Doxa partners with an incredible couple that leads an awesome church in the mountain city of Coachabamba. In addition to their church work, our Bolivian partners are caring for orphans and the poor, and they are helping to rescue the children of prostitutes from following their parents into that lifestyle. Our friends in Bolivia are doing truly important work and we are so excited to continue to partner with them.
India
Project Doxa is very actively involved providing resources to multiple ministries all over the sub-continent. We are more invested in India than almost any country. That is pretty much all we can say about that here.
Middle East
Project Doxa has an active presence in multiple countries throughout the Middle East. Like our projects in India, we cannot really elaborate on our work in this region.
