We launched Discipletrek for 2 main reasons:
- We want to give people an opportunity to step away from their daily life for a few days to focus on growing their relationship with Jesus while explore the beautiful world he has created.
- We want to give people another avenue to invest in Kingdom missionary projects.
One of the things that makes Discipletrek unique is that we are unashamedly seeking to use our adventure tours to raise and invest money in missionary projects. We know that your participation in one of our adventures will attract a lot of attention among your circle of friends and family and we want you to use this platform as an opportunity to raise funds for missions.
Here is how it works:
After you sign up for one of our adventures, we will spend some time in conversation with you and help you choose both a particular project/missionary and also an ambitious fundraising goal.
We will then put together an online fundraising page specific to your project and goals, and you can begin to share the link to it online. Project Doxa is a 501-C3 organization, so all donations are deductible.
Some of you may choose to bundle the cost of your adventure into your entire goal and seek to fundraise for the entire amount. This is common, but not required. For example, a team member may choose to join our Annapurna Base Camp trek ($2,200) and also seek to raise an additional $2,000 to build a classroom at our school for Nepali refugees. The goal on the fundraising page would reflect the entire $4,200 amount and Project Doxa would arrange payment to Discipletrek once you had raised sufficient funds to cover the cost of your adventure.
Others of you may choose to keep the cost of your adventure separate from your fundraising goals. With the same example, your fundraising page would reflect your $2,000 goal for the school, but the $2,200 cost of the adventure itself would be kept off of the fundraising page and you would pay the cost of your adventure directly to Discipletrek.
Do I have to choose a particular project/missionary?
No, you are not required to choose a particular project or missionary for your fundraising. Many of our team members will simply raise additional funds for Project Doxa generally. This is actually a great arrangement, because it allows our ministry to designate funds as needs arise.
That said, we know that many people will prefer to raise funds for a particular project or missionary, and we are happy to accommodate that as well. We will talk you through a list of potential options that may even include taking on a new project for us. We are committed to getting to a win-win situation for all parties, and we haven’t had much trouble finding a missionary project everyone can get excited about.
What if I miss my fundraising goal?
Of course we would love for all of our team members to hit their fundraising goals, but this portion of our trips is optional. So long as you cover the actual cost of the adventure, you will still be able to make the trip even if you come up a bit short on your missions fundraising goal.
