We are so excited to be returning to one of the most scenic locations in the United States, the Enchantments! There is no sugar-coating this one–completing the 21 mile one-way trek through the Enchantments in a single day will be a massive challenge for even the fittest trekkers. We have intentionally scheduled this trip to make the hike while the larches are turning gold. This is a little bit risky in terms of potential weather, but the payoff will absolutely be worth it.
***Colchuck Lake Modification***
Considering the extreme difficulty of this trek, we are offering a Colchuck Lake modification. Those doing this option will not make the full point to point trek through the core enchantments zone. Instead they will do a roundtrip trek up to Colchuck Lake where they will spend several hours enjoying one of the most scenic lakes in America. This option reduces the overall trek to ~9.5 miles and ~3k feet of vertical hiking. This is still a very challenging hike, but this option is completely accessible to novice hikers. Offering this modification also allows us to create a bail out option for those who were planing to take on the full trail but for whatever reason on the day are not able to complete the full 21 mile hike.

Trek Difficulty: Extremely Difficult
The Enchantments are an other-worldly wilderness of mountains and lakes in the Pacific Northwest. This trek requires a full commitment (zero option to turn around after mile 5) approximately 21 mile trek through very rough terrain with more than 5,500ft of gain and 7,500ft of loss. Only those with significant endurance experience and fitness should attempt to take on this incredibly demanding adventure.
We are recommending that at a minimum all team members be able to cover a full marathon distance (26.2) in less than 7hrs (16 minutes/mile) as a benchmark before attempting a single day trek through the Enchantments. If an individual cannot complete this distance at brisk walking pace on flat ground at sea level, we don’t think it is wise to attempt this trek. Of course, team members do not need to demonstrate this fitness at the moment they apply, but this is our minimum expectation by the start of the adventure. we recommend you take the season of preparation seriously. We suggest that all members of our team devote themselves to a season of physical training that should include a mix of smaller training hikes, strength work, and significant cardiovascular exercise.
Itinerary:
Day 1 (Oct 3rd)
Team members need to arrive at Seattle airport no later than 5:00PM Pacific Time. Upon arriving in Seattle, we will gather the team for dinner and make the 2.5 hour drive to Wenatchee which will serve as our base of operations for the trip.
Day 2 (Oct 4th)
This is a built in rest/preparation day. We will have a lazy morning where everyone can sleep in a bit, then we will grab breakfast at a restaurant in Wenatchee. In the early afternoon we will make our way to the German town of Leavenworth for a late lunch/early dinner. We should be back at our home base in Wenatchee by 5:00 or 6:00PM for an early bed time.
Day 3 (Oct 5th)
We will set our alarms at 3:00AM on trek day. We want to be on the trail no later than 4:00AM, which means we will be starting in the dark. We are anticipating something between 12 and 16 hours on trail, so the earlier we can start, the better. We will climb through the forrest for the first several miles until reach Colchuck Lake, and that is where the real fun begins as we will make our way up to and over Aasgard Pass. Aasgard Pass is the most physically demanding section of the trek, gaining over 2,000ft in less than one mile. The next few miles in the core Enchantments zone are relatively easy hiking through almost indescribable beauty. Upon leaving the core Enchantments zone, we will descend past a couple of alpine lakes before a lengthy trip through the forrest to finish up the trek. This will be an incredibly long day, but it will also be one you will never forget. We will finish the day with a celebratory meal in Leavenworth.
Day 4 (Oct 6th)
We will grab breakfast in Wenatchee as we make our way back to Seattle to catch our departing flights. Please do not schedule a departure any earlier than 12:00PM.
